4th, 5th and 6th Novel Summary
The 4th, 5th and 6th classes read a novel based around 1846 – 1847 in the eyes of a 12 year old girl named Eily. The book was ‘ Under the Hawthorn Tree ‘ by Marita Conlon McKenna.
Eily and her younger siblings, Peggy and Michael, live in a small, thatched cottage until disaster strikes and blight affects their crop. Mother goes in search of their beloved father. They are forced to travel to the workhouse, but they decide to take a detour in search of their grand-aunts of whom they have only heard of in Mother’s tales.
We thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone fascinated in the Great famine.
We are now reading ‘ Kensuke’s Kingdom ‘ by Michael Morpurgo and we are looking forward to what exhilarating story Michael Morpurgo has in store for us.

The Stay Safe Programme
The stay safe programme is a subject where we learn about what is safe and what is not.
Feelings
Our first topic was feelings and we learned how to control them, we now know we should share our feelings to the people we know and trust the most.
Bullying
Our second topic was bullying, we learned about different types of bullying including cyber and physical bullying. We now know bullying is hurtful, repeated and deliberate.
Touches
Our third topic was touches it was based on good and bad touches and touches we are confused about. We learned that we should never ever hurt someone physically and also never touch someone in a way that they are uncomfortable with. We learned to never keep a touch a secret and to say NO, GET AWAY AND TELL!!
Remember to always STAY SAFE!
